Regular Meeting

November 11, 2019

Staff Development Room

5:30 P.M.


The meeting was called to order by the secretary. The following members were present: Ms. Griffin, Mr. McJoy, Mr. Mosley and Mr. Williams. Mrs. Green, Mr. Livingston and Mrs. Thompson were absent.

The October 14, 2019 minutes were approved as presented.

The superintendent reviewed the district’s 2020 Facilities Master Plan in accordance to ACA. 6-21-806 as part of its regular meeting. The public was allowed to comment on the master plan. The superintendent requested that the board pass the following resolution for local support of the 2020

Facilities Master Plan with required documentation. A motion was made by Mr. McJoy and seconded by Mr. Williams to approve the resolution for local support of 2020 Facilities Master Plan. The motion carried (See attached Resolution).

The superintendent recommended to the board to approve the annual reoccurring bonus for certified ($2,000), classified ($1,000), school bus drivers ($600) and an additional one time non-recurring bonus for certified ($1,000) and classified ($250). A motion was made by Mr. McJoy and seconded by Mr. Mosley to accept the superintendent’s recommendation to give employees the above bonuses. The amount of the bonus will be prorated based on contracted days and hours worked. The motion carried. The superintendent also recommended to the board to give three certified purchase service (teachers of record) for the entire 2019-20 school year a $1,000 stipend (Mr. Abe Hudson and Ms. Carolyn Poindexter) and Mrs. Virginia Mitchell ($500) the remainder of this semester. The motion carried. Furthermore, a motion was made by Mr. McJoy and seconded by Mr. Williams to give Mrs. Veronica Martinez a $1,000 stipend for additional responsibilities in Pre-K. The motion carried.

A motion was made by Ms. Griffin and seconded by Mr. McJoy to allow the Lakeside band to go on an Educational Field Trip to Atlanta, GA from January 23-26, 2020 to participate in a variety of events. The motion carried.

The superintendent discussed the minimum wage increase for the next two years, increase in teacher salary , declining enrollment, teacher and school bus driver shortage and ASBA State Conference (December 11-13, 2019).

The Secretary requested that the board go into executive session for the purpose of employment, appointment, promotion, discipline or resignation of personnel. After the discussion, the public was allowed to return. A motion was made by Mr. McJoy and seconded by Mr. Williams to approve the contract of George Gilbert as a school bus driver and accept the resignation of Mary M. Howsen. The motion carried.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:30 P.M.
