Regular Meeting

January 21, 2020

Staff Development Room

5:30 P.M.


The meeting was called to order by the president. The following members were present: Ms. Griffin, Mr. Livingston, Mrs. Thompson and Mr. William. Mrs. Green, Mr. McJoy and Mr. Mosley were absent.

The December 5, 2019 minutes and financial reports were approved as presented.

Mr. Cortez Smith and Mr. Cyrus Vance, Coordinators at the UAM School of Technology at McGehee, discussed all the programs UAM offers for Career and Technical Education. Mr. Vance stated that a large number of our students are going into the welding field and many of them have been placed on jobs with great incomes.

The superintendent discussed the certified salary schedule, Standard of Accreditation Status, Teacher Recruitment (U of A, TFA, MAT, etc.) Vaping in schools, 38 required high school credits, millage extend, modified band trip schedule, high priority incentive bonus, school board members training hours, statement of financial (Due January 1, 2020 to January 31, 2020), and ACT 556 of 2019 was discussed (An Act to prohibit unlawful female genital mutilation (FM) of a minor).

The superintendent presented a resolution on behalf of the Governor of the State of Arkansas, the Arkansas State Board of Education and the Arkansas Department of Education recognizing and saluting the members of local board of education by proclaiming the month of January 2020 as Arkansas School Board Member Recognition month. Also, each board member received a certificate of Recognition by the superintendent (“In Appreciation of Your Valuable Service to the Children of Arkansas”).

The president requested that the board go into executive session for the purpose of employment, appointment, promotion, discipline or resignation of personnel. After the discussion, the public was allowed to return. A motion was made by Mr. Livingston and seconded by Mr. Williams to accept the resignation of Rose Dunn (High School Social Studies) and approve the contract for Garrett Sheets (Middle School Health and PE and to coach soccer and basketball) and Jakalyn Eichelberger (Kindergarten Teacher at Eudora Elementary School). The motion carried.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
