The meeting was called to order by the president. All members were present.
The February 8, 2016 minutes, attendance and financial reports were approved as presented.
The superintendent discussed the proposed school calendar voted on by the teachers for 2016-17 school year. A motion was made by Mr. Collins and seconded by Ms. Griffin to accept proposed school calendar #1 voted on by the teachers for 2016-17 school year. The motion carried.
A motion was made by Mr. Collins and seconded by Mrs. Green to accept the superintendent’s recommendation based on the personnel policy committee and staff survey (87% for and 13% against) to implement direct deposit in lieu of paper checks for the 2016-17 school. The motion carried.
The superintendent reported that school had been dismissed for two days due to inclement weather. He gave the board the indicators used to justify closing the school. Also, the superintendent discussed the NSBA Conference, air flight, time change, motel accommodations, the us of the drug dog, teaching positions posted for 2016-17 school year and the use of school facilities.
A motion was made by Mr. Collins and seconded by Mr. Mosley to accept Shannon Moore’s, ASBA Risk Management Director, recommendation to require outside groups who rent school facilities purchase general liability coverage for property damage and bodily injury. The motion carried.
The president requested that the board go into executive session for the purpose of employment, appointment, promotion, discipline, or resignation of personnel. After the discussion, the public was allowed to return.
A motion was made by Mrs. Green and seconded by Ms. Griffin to renew the contracts of all teachers recommended (on their list) by Mrs. Stone, Mr. Gray, Mr. Maiden and Ms. Armour.
Also, renew contracts of the ALE teachers and Audrey Brown (Federal Coordinator) for the 2016-17 school year and accept the resignations of Desiree Cook (High School Social Studies), Juanita Burton (High School Business, Maria Nassios (High School Algebra II and Geometry, Shirley Smith (Middle School Consumer Science), Abe Hudson, Sr. (Middle School - 8th grade Language Arts), Clifford Israel (8th-12th Math), and Carlean Harvey (Elementary School Computer Lab Paraprofessional) for the 2016-2017 School Year. The motion carried.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:45 P.M.
