Lakeside Board of Education

Regular Meeting

March 9, 2020

Staff Development Room

5:30 P.M.

The meeting was called to order by the president. The following members were present: Ms. Griffin, Mr. Livingston, Mr. McJoy, Mr. Mosley, Mrs. Thompson and Mr. Williams. Mrs. Green was absent.

The February 10, 2020 minutes and financial reports were approved as presented.

The superintendent discussed preliminary state aid projections, passage of school millage extension, Arkansas Department of Health guidance for school and childcare programs regarding COVID-19, Leslie Ruthledge; Attorney General’s letter (discussing opioid epidemic, curb incarceration, recidivism rates), and the NSBA Statement was given to board members on 2020 NSBA conference cancellation due to COVID-19.

The superintendent gave an update on the school calendar for 2020-21 school year, state requirements for district website, shortage of school bus drivers statewide, the band and robotics trips and Delta Trade School update.

A motion was made by Mr. Livingston and seconded by Ms. Griffin to allow the Lakeside Band to participate in Whitehaven High School Drumline competition in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4, 2020 and Alcorn State University High School Band competition on April 25, 2020 and Lakeside Robotics Team to attend the National and Worlds Robotics Competition in Council Bluff, Iowa and Louisville, Kentucky. The motion carried.

The president requested that the board go into executive session for the purpose of employment, appointment, promotion, discipline or resignation of personnel. After the discussion, the public was allowed to return. A motion was made by Ms. Griffin and seconded by Mr. McJoy to renew the contracts of all teachers recommended (on the list)), by Mr. Sims, Mrs. Stone, Mr. Gray and Ms. Armour. Also, renew the contracts of Charles Brady (ALE Director) and Darrius Green (ALE Teacher and Coach). The motion carried.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:28 P.M.
