Lakeside Board of Education

Regular Meeting

January 8, 2018

Staff Development Room

5:30 P.M.

The meeting was called to order by the president. The following members were present: Mr. Collins, Mrs. Green, Ms. Griffin, Mr. Livingston and Mr. Williams. Mr. Griffin, Mr. McJoy and Mr. Mosley were absent.

The December 11, 2017 minutes and financial report were approved as presented.

The superintendent read resolutions presented on behalf of the Governor of the State of Arkansas, the Arkansas State Board of Education recognizing and saluting the members of local boards of education by proclaiming the month of January 2018 as Arkansas School Board Member Recognition month. Also, each board member received a Certificate of Recognition by the superintendent (“In Appreciation of your valuable service to the children of Arkansas.”) Furthermore, the Lakeside School District Board of Directors were recognized as a Master Board at the Arkansas School Board Association regional conference on December 7, 2017.

The superintendent gave a report on the Stock Market Program sponsored by Economic Arkansas. The Lakeside Elementary and Middle had first and second place winners who will be honored at a luncheon held in Little Rock at the Verizon Arena on January 10, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. Also, the superintendent discussed upcoming audits (Arkansas Legislative Audit, State Child Nutrition Audit and IRS 403B Plan Audit), NSBA Conference, school bus accident and board financial statements which must be submitted to the county clerk by January 31, 2018.

The president requested that the board go into executive session for the purpose of employment, appointment, discipline, promotion, or resignation of personnel. After the discussion, the public was allowed to return. A motion was made by Mr. Livingston and seconded by Mr. Collins to table the superintendent’s evaluation and one year extension to an existing contract until the next meeting and approved Tammie Shaw to serve as a long-term substitute in the 4th grade class based on an approval from the Arkansas Department of Education. The motion carried,
