Dyslexia

Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurological in origin. It is described by difficulties in accurate and/or fluent word recognition, poor spelling, and decoding abilities. These difficulties are a result of a deficit in the phonological component of language.

Eudora Elementary students in grades (K-2) are screened using the DIBELS Next and the Rapid Naming. Students in grades (3-12) with teacher recommendation are screened for dyslexia. This screener will show the students that will be placed in a Tier 1, Tier 2, or Tier 3 intervention group . We provide interventions to the bottom 20% of our students per grade level in K-2. The students in the Tier 3 interventions are screened using the C-TOPP 2 screener. This screener will show which students have the characteristics of dyslexia. We gather additional data on each student from different sources before making the decision to place a student in the dyslexia class.
